A team of policy makers and executive staffs from the government, nongovernment and private sector organizations are in a co-generation study tour in India from 11th to 15th February 2013. The study tour is organized by the 'Regional Energy Efficiency Programme' in cooperation with 'Nepal Energy Efficiency Programme (NEEP) which are financed by the German Government and supported by GIZ. During the tour, the team will get acquainted with experience in India on implementation and operation of cogeneration technology. Cogeneration will not only enable efficient usage of biomass but also generate electricity that can contribute in decreasing the current supply gap of electricity. According to FNCCI there are 270 Industries in Nepal using boiler (e.g. sugar mills, paper mills, Ghee, chemical) with cogeneration potential.
The team members of the study tour consists of representatives from Water and Energy Commission Secretariat (WECS), Ministry of Energy (MoE), Ministry of Industry (MoI), Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Indushankar Chini Udhyog, Lumbini Chini Udhyog, Reliance Paper Mills, Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industries/ Energy Efficiency Centre (FNCCI/EEC) and GIZ.
